Quick note: Hi Jim; (good to see you!) Allow me to explain something....during the mid '80's.. A Philly (Philadelphia) DJ (Bob Pantano) got me interested in collecting Philly hits and such, on vinyl. I'd listen to various radio stations, playing vintage tunes. Began collecting vinyl like it was going out of style. Once I was satisfied with what I had collected, mostly LPs, along comes Dick Bartley (his Saturday Night show) and starts playing rare stereo vinyl. Boy, did that bother me, because I had the monophonic LPs! I didn't even know a stereo version existed! Back then, what Dick played was rare, like "Judy In Disguise (With Glasses)", in stereo, but is now very common, on CD! Yeah, BABY! Eat my shorts, Dick! :-) Oh, sorry! So, it's not so much what songs are played, but how they come across, mono or stereo, as well. One other note. While he was a little before my music interest time, Jerry Blavat (DJ) would feature songs that other DJs typically didn't play. He seemed to favor danceable tunes, since he had a dance show. That, too, I find unique, in that it's not always Joel Whitburn books that are used, if you know what I mean, as far as programming. Jerry made them local hits. But, wait, then there are alternate versions! More to add to what I feel would be a unique, programmed show. My goal is to find as many alternate versions of Pop songs, that I can, even in foreign languages, that don't deviate too much from the final "hit" version, such like remakes do. I think that was a quick enough note! :-) Take care! Best, |
