Let's Talk about PDs (Program Directors) and DJs (Disc Jockeys) at "Oldies" related radio stations... Jim, I'm not sure of the responsibilities of PDs and DJs. However, today, is The Showcase for "Oldies", with (SA) Audio CDs and High Definition (HD) Radio. If I hired a PD who had the responsibility of selecting exactly what to play, and he didn't have a clue what was available, what good would he be to me? If he had a DJ play a worn-out 45, when I knew of a pristine sounding Stereo CD version, do you think I would keep him, or send him onto some limited fidelity, monophonic broadcast, AM Radio Station? If you guessed the latter, you are correct! DJs, with the help of the Internet, are quite common. Don't know anything about a particular artist, then do a search and, BAM, you're now an expert! I catch numerous DJs playing remakes. You won't find that information in writing. If you don't know what you're playing, don't play it! My Dad, who passed away recently, told me "John, you can't know everything, so concentrate on one thing and know it better than anyone else and you'll succeed". So, my goal, like Joel Whitburn. is to track songs, but not for charting purposes, but for superior sound quality. Maybe I'm a bit more demanding "Gold" listener than most, but when my older Sister tells me about a wonderful sounding song she heard on the radio, I know sound quality plays a major factor, these days. Now, if you'll forgive me, I have to listen to some wonderful rhythmic sounds. Yeah, I have to wash my clothes! :-) Take care and thanks! Best, |
