Subject: RE: And they said it would not last.... |

John wrote.... The Record Industry waited too long. Jim replies... They also charged way too much. CDs were so much cheaper to produce than vinyl, but what did they do? They increased the price, showing a blatant disregard for the consumer. Problem is, the chickens are coming home to roost with a vengeance now. John wrote... I still cherish vinyl, but there's one heck of a lot more that was never published on LP as there is on CD. However, I'm going blind trying to read what is published in these small CD booklets! :-) Jim replies.... Too true - we have stuff on CD now that even the artist probably does not recall recording! Yet, there are some weird exceptions. For example, I rather like the Lettermen, and they recorded quite a few vinyl albums. Yet Capitol in the US seem content to release CD after CD of their "Greatest Hits", ignoring their original album output. I mean, how many different CDs of their Greatest Hits do Capitol think we need? At least even if Warner Brothers did a few Harpers Bizarre Greatest Hits. they went on to re-issue every vinyl album Harpers had - and Harpers Bizarre never reached the popularity of The Lettermen. John wrote... 1958? I couldn't even walk then! :-) Jim reples... I was 12 and rock was nicely underway - so I am claiming seniority rights! Respect your elders! |
