Hi Bob, First off - congratulations on your marriage tomorrow. I really wish you both the very best. And no - in spite of what you said, I am not really a most patient man - but thanks for saying so anyway! Since finding the site, I have become addicted, and have now almost worn out (insofar as you can wear an MP3 out), your countdowns. What particularly impressed me were the 1960, 1961 and 1957 ones - they must be way before your time (though not, I am sad to say, mine!) - but your easy scholarship and command of the genre is most impressive. Back in 1961, I was possibly the only person in Ireland to own Joe Barry's US hit "I'm A Fool To Care" (it was not released over here but if you had contacts in Germany, you could purchase some unreleased material through the US Military Bases), so to tune in now, forty odd years later, and hear you introduce it as it was probably introduced on American radio back in 1961 - is something else from my point of view. So one reason for my query was that although I do not know how long Ultimate Oldies was on-air before I found it, I realise I must have missed quite a few weekly countdowns, and those weeks once done, are unlikely to be ever repeated. The other reason for my query is that I would love to plug the archives section on our own site http://www.songwriter.co.uk which has a very high hit rate, but I just want to be sure that it is all working before asking members to tune in and (hopefully) subscribe. Anyway - now that I know that the archives will be up there eventually, I promise to be patient!> Finally, (and I do mean finally!), I had no idea that the Jack Gale who does the weekly show was also the same Jack Gale who ran Playback Records until I heard you mention this on one of your countdowns. Playback was a fine label - I used to play some of their stuff when I worked on radio here in Ireland. It really is a small world! Thanks for everything and above all, for providing such a wonderful site. Jim |
