Message Detail:
Norm asked: Would you consider the Abbey Road album to be a drop off in quality? Or how about their last Album which featured 'Let it Be' and many other songs that are still played on the radio today.

I won't say it's bad music, Norm; it charted well. Not that it was popular as adult contemporary music, mind you.

I would say their music changed because of the times. Pop, bubbly music, wasn't wanted anymore (what made FM radio so popular for classic/alternative rock) and suggestive music, even with drugs, become more popular. The Beatles, to me, later looked like their music - no longer sharp, professional and clean looking.

Also, did Payola (radio station bribes from Capitol Records) help The Beatles along? I'm sure it did.

Best,
John
