As you say - another piece of trivia bites the dust - or does it?

Until Hugh Downs speaks, we should all hold back!

Loved the 1958 show - I remember hearing most (not all) of these in Europe on AFN (American Forces Network) back in 1958.

That was the only way I could hear American radio, in that the US Armed Forces had a number of US DJs such as Alan Freed contracted to do weekly countdowns, which were cut on disk and flown from New York to Frankfurt in Germany, and then broadcast for the US Troops in Europe.

My dad (luckily) was a radio buff, who loved picking up strange stations, so from an early age, I could hear Alan Freed when nobody here in Europe knew who he was.

These countdowns take me back I can tell you.
