Yeah, your right...they didn't get the accolades they deserved in the U.S.. They were just a little ahead of their time. Ron Tyson, currently with the Temptations, was their lead singer. He has written over 200 songs for various R&B groups over the years. The Ethics were the forerunners of what was to be known as the Philly Sound. "Standing in the darkness" and "I want my baby back" are two other songs they sung. They had Thom Bell as a producer. Bell produced records for the Stylistics, Delfonics and Ojays,Spinners,Johnny Mathis and other artists. These groups borrowed from the Ethics, and the Ethics had to watch from the sidelines as these groups passed them by. I just saw the Spinners two days ago at the California Mid-State fair. Three of the original five are still performing. Not a bad act, considering their ages. |
