Was listening to a college radio show one Sunday afternoon. They played a Hank Ballard & The Midnighters song, in stereo. Boy, it got me excited, even though it was bland stereo, because I forgot about Hank and his songs! I later e-mailed the DJ and asked what media he played it from. He told me an '80's Rhino Records LP. Later on, I searched for Hank Ballard CDs. Read lots of comments that the stereo material didn't sound like the "hit", monophonic songs. But being a fan of stereo, it sounded great to me, on Collectables Records. Anyway, the fine folks at Bear Family (Germany) issued a box-set of Hank and included this early take of, 1961's "The Hoochie Coochie Coo"! Was sad to read that Hank died of throat cancer :-( RIP, Mr. Ballard. Best, |
