![]() Subject: RE: Got To Get You Into My Life - 60's Artist Unkown |
Artist is Cliff Bennett & The Rebel Rousers, and they had a number of UK hits - the two biggest being a cover of the Drifters "One Way Love" in 1965, and this one above in 1966 - actually produced by Paul McCartney. The problem was the Beatles had so many good songs on their albums, and unlike the US, where the label often released three or four singles simultaneously, Parlophone religiously released just one single every four months in the UK - allowing other bands to cover album tracks. However, in this case, it was different. Bennett was also on Parlophone, and managed by Brian Epstein, and became friendly with the Beatles. Some time before "Revolver" was due for release, Paul gave Cliff an acetate of the album, and suggested they cover this track. After this, they faded, but Bennett had made a lot of money in business (even turning down the chance to become lead singer with Blood Sweat & Tears - who of course revived this song themselves in the 70's). They were a great band - no session musicians needed - a sort of UK Blood Sweat & Tears or Chicago. |
