I THINK it all has to be "live", this is why they demand training, to take care of the sponsors and announcements. I'd have to travel, I guess, 20+ miles, one way.

In my opinion, everyone gets a thrill behind a broadcast microphone! At a local (also a possibility) college station, they wanted more student participation, than outsiders! Even commercial radio in this area, such as WMGK, has outside participants doing shows, though you may not find it in their schedule!
