I do not apologise easily, so please be nice to me! I mentioned on a recent post that the over-dubbed drummer on "Mr Blue" was one "Bobby Moore". I have always believed that to be correct. Meanwhile, I had been in contact with Gary Troxel of the Fleetwoods on another matter, and in passing, mentioned the name to him. The name Bobby Moore meant nothing to him, but on the spur of the moment, he could not recall who the drummer was. Since then, he has come back to me with the following: "You are correct about Roy Lanham and Sy Zentner. We weren't there when these people added their music and our producer and part owner of Dolphin said we just about drove Sy over the edge because we recorded accapella and had gone a little flat so he had to adjust his notes to our flatness. Bob said he was really pissed off. I assume he was probably mad at himself because he couldn't do it the first take. It would have been fun to talk to him about it but I didn't learn about this till after he passed on. I think the drummer was probably Earl Palmer. Many years later, we were on a show at a Theme Park in California and Earl Palmers Band was our back up. He said he remembered us but I doubt it!" So there you have it. It was most likely Earl Palmer, as he did a lot of work with Ray Lanham. All I do know is that it was not Bobby Moore! My apologies for posting a non-fact. As a penance, I will listen to several hours of Vic Damone. |
