John wrote... You ever have any famous artists visit? Jim replied.... UK acts mainly...American acts who visited or did interviews inlcuded Gene Pitney, Garth Brooks, Johnny Moore (of the Drifters), Charlie Pride - in other words, acts touring Europe. John wrote.... I still say R&R took time to catch on with radio stations. Why some of the adult sounding favorites, put R&R on hold, scoring #1's! Jim replied... I never believed that - but in fact you are 100% correct. It is only when I listen bow to the early Bob Mathers Top 40 Shows (the 1957 t0 1961 shows) that I accept that for every rock and roll record, there was a Perry Como, Vic Damone, Tony Bennett hit. Some person (sorry my memory is fading) in the UK published something recently which listed the music that sold during Beatlemania, and it is obvious that even in those "pure" rock years (as we thought), more MOR than rock music was selling. Our minds are selective...to me it was all rock and roll...but the reality was different. |
