I NEVER hear/read - send in your comments how we can improve our station. Jim says he'd like to hear a radio show of mine. But, in reality, I'd have to change my thinking. I could hear myself behind the microphone "Oh, and, here, WXYZ, you massive CBS owned station, touting your fine HD Radio, here's the stereo version you never play!..." So, in the meantime, I'm taking notes who plays what in my area. A couple guys had a radio R&B show on a local WIFI. I could tell they were dissapointed with the amount of listeners. I once called them, and told them they had a nice show with nice music, but as hard as I tried, I didn't recognize anything they played. A week or two later, they were off the air. And, who catually does supply these commecial stations with past music, especially, the HD Radio ones? Some say there is a service to subsribe to to fuel you with early material. BUT, when I commented to one of them that their Rolling Stones tune sounded ill, they were able to name ABKCO as the source! A couple years ago I was listening to a college based radio show. That's were I heard Hank Ballard in stereo, even in very crude form - handclapping in one stereo channel. Wrote the person, and he told me it was on a Rhino LP compilation of the '80's - Federal Records. Was glad to find there was better stereo, on CD, since more of the session tapes were discovered! Seems the handclapping was the last item to add to Hank Ballard songs and a slew of others. I don't stand a chance against my peers, they know a lot more about artists than I, even the internet is available for that information. That is why I target, not about the artists, but about their recordings, how they were recorded, how long did it take them to record the hit, was the producer even involved, etc.. Feel I can add a lot to radio - fill in some of the missing pieces. But, again, as hard as I try, I have to contend with station managers. You know, if it's not their idea, go away. Even tried to bypass them, contacting the owners - no reply! Even at WRDV, I think it is, they changed their adult format to include Big Band material. That tells me their main listeners, even though I love the sound of Big Bands, are older than I. It's all well and good, but early, inferior sounding Big Band material is difficult for me to ingest, because of recording technology! Was surprized to find they shut off their FM transmitter, late night! So, there you have it. You can offer many prizes to keep listeners listening, as commercial radio does, even though you may only provide a glimpse of "oldies", or hope for the best! It's a struggle, Bob, that doesn't get any easier as time passes! My best to you and yours! Best,
