One thing I like about some earlier recordings is, they were recorded real-time, and, technically, if well engineered, should sound fantastic. Liberty Records was one who seemed concerned with sound quality, early on. As I may have mentioned before, it's fun to listen to the studio talk while recording this song. The guy announcing the Takes seems to be on the verge of breaking out laughing, since the song is stopped and started again, multiple time, in a short period of time, by Snuff Garrett. I feel, early in Pop music, there were better recording engineers - great pride in sound quality. Slowly, later on, to save cost, even roadies, would join record companies, such as Columbia Records' engineering staff. Footnote to Jim Liddane: As you mention, and I agree, Stereo renditions aren't in great demand. But as I discovered, HQ sound isn't either.
