Subject: RE: Les Cooper's Wiggle Wobble |
|
Although I knew that King Curtis had made at least two different recordings of the tune "Wiggle Wobble", I had never heard it said that King Curtis played on Les Cooper's version of "Wiggle Wobble" as well, but sure enough, I looked up the link you mentioned, and there it was. Based however on a series of interviews Les Cooper gave to Marv Goldberg in 2001, it is hard to see how the above could be correct. As far as I know, Joe Grier had to leave The Charts when he was called up into the US Army in 1958, When he got out of the army, he went to see to Les Cooper who had some years earlier got the Charts their first record contract, when Les himself was singing with the Empires. By now however, Les was purely instrumental, and he asked Joe to join the band as sax player. According to Les, Joe Grier played sax on "Wiggle Wobble", and there is a history of The Empires, Les Cooper etc., wirtten by Marv Goldberg and based on interviews he did with Les Cooper, on http://home.att.net/~marvy42/Empires/empires.html Now unless Les Cooper got it wrong!!! |
