It's about a particular song, but more of a general question. When others went to reissue The Strangloves' material (I Want Candy) on CD, I'm sure they were told, nothing exists on tape to license, so "rips" from vinyl had to do. It remained that way until the (Strangloves') Producer walked in with the (multi-track) session tapes, they could even be rendered to premiere stereo. I'm sure it's all part of contracts, but I'm GUESSING a Producer can "hold" or control whatever tapes, but if they are to be used for reissue, they must be Published via the initial record company. For example, the song, "Thinking Of You", by Loggins & Messina, the 70's hit single version has yet to appear on CD, just the rerecorded album version is only available. I'm guessing Jim Messina, Producer, controls its use. John |
