Subject: RE: A Toast For 2007 |
|
Dear Walt; Thank you for the New Years reflections and positive thoughts about a brighter future for the Steam Tug Baltimore also the comment about playing with the Big Toys, my definition of that quote goes as follows= You Can Tell The Men from the Boys By the Tonnage of the Toys". On a more serious note, I had not realized the extent that our precious Marine Artifacts were, and are in danger of being lost buy the actions of certain politicians,I was actually hoping to see the Forrestall, or the Des Moines come to Baltimore to furthur enhance Baltimores Rich Maritime History. Now I understand the Des Moines is being scrapped in Brownsville Texas by a Mexican firm who will be paid a million dollars to harvest 21,000 Tons of high Quality steel at a time when steel prices have never been higher ,and that the Forrestall is scheduled not to go to Baltimore as a tourist attraction and Memorial but now will become an artifical reef. Most of , if not all of the City Waterfront will be turned into high rise condos and people like myself wont even be able to see the Harbor just on the other side of the high rise condos . Further, I am now shocked beyond belief that an ICON like the Chesapeaque Light ship and the Submarine Torsk have been looking for new homes. What in the HELL is wrong with this Picture ? Please Put me on the list as a volunteer to help in the effort to Save,Preserve, and Restore These Proud Ships. |
